A complete product overhaul that simplified cross-border payments for millions of users.
Mukuru is one of Africa's largest money transfer operators, serving millions of customers across the continent and diaspora. We partnered with Mukuru to redesign their mobile experience — making cross-border payments faster, more intuitive, and accessible to users with varying levels of digital literacy.
The Challenge
The existing app suffered from complex navigation, a high drop-off rate during transfers, and poor performance on low-bandwidth networks. Users needed a cleaner path from sign-in to completed transaction, without sacrificing compliance requirements.
Our Approach
We rebuilt the app in Flutter to deliver a single, consistent codebase across iOS and Android. The new design system prioritised clarity — reducing the transfer flow from nine steps to four, introducing contextual guidance at key decision points, and optimising assets for 2G/3G connections.

The Outcome
Post-launch, the average transaction completion time dropped by 40%. App store ratings improved from 3.2 to 4.6. The Flutter foundation gave the Mukuru team the velocity to ship new features across platforms simultaneously.
